Android Nougat 7.1.1 update for Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 EDGE

Samsung has done good to owners of Galaxy S7, S7 edge by directly updating their devices to Nougat 7.1.1 instead of 7.0. Samsung is due to release its update soon on these two flagship devices with loads of features from Nougat and Samsung’s own tweaks on them. In the same breath, the owner’s of other flagship devices by Samsung need not worry as they too will receive the updates in the new year. Come 2017 and you will find Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge Plus and Note 5 all updated to Nougat.

Quicker updates in the offing

Compared to how Marshmallow was updated, which indeed was a long long time, it seems that some of these smartphone brands have woken up to the fact that their consumers are to be taken seriously. And that is precisely why we will see quicker updates from the likes of HTC, Samsung, Sony and others. HTC has been smart to update its consumers that HTC 10, One M9 and One A9 will soon find Android 7.0 Nougat as their new OS. That done, we will wait till they deliver on their promise real fast.

Samsung punches out Nougat  7.0 for 7.1.1

That is one heartening news for owners of Galaxy S7, S7 edge that sooner than later they will find themselves on Nougat 7.1.1. But for their poorer cousins like S6, S6 edge, S6 edge Plus and Note 5, the wait will be much more. Samsung has been testing the beta version on S7 devices in UK of late but it is yet to come out with the updates. Samsung’s move for the beta program is encouraging as this will help in early release of the update publicly.

Google has done a tremendous job in updating Nexus and Pixel devices on the go. They get updated more frequently  than those from other major manufacturers like Samsung. Why is it that android could not implement its latest OS on the devices of major mobile companies. If the updates are streamlined in such a way that Samsung, Motorola, Sony and LG among other mobile brands get to update to the latest OS along with Pixel and Nexus then it will save their owners not only the heartburn but also to use their costly devices for what it is worth. It is lamentable that owners of Galaxy S7, S7 edge have to wait for updates for a much longer period than those of Pixel or Nexus.
