“Although we all have nasolabial folds, they become more visible with age as the skin becomes thinner. Depending on the degree of severity, it can be a superficial or deep furrow”, explains Thais González, manager and beautician specializing in laser at Dermativa.

By losing quality in the generation of collagen and adipose tissue, it is accentuated by the gradual decrease in water in the skin”, says Thais. Other factors that can be determining factors are unhealthy lifestyle, smoking, or UV rays. The appearance of these wrinkles does not always depend on age.

Everyone has them, more or less prominent, but it is a sign that appears over the years. Although not everything is bad, there are ways to end it. Thais González, explains the different treatments that exist to combat it.
– Creams and makeup: when the nasolabial folds are not very pronounced, moisturizing cream or makeup can help delay the development and appearance of wrinkles.
– Dermal fillers: by filling the upper part of the cheek or the area just below the smile lines with hyaluronic acid, spectacular and instant results are achieved.
– Laser resurfacing: expression lines sometimes leave a permanent wrinkle that is evident even when you are not smiling. This type of wrinkles can be reduced with treatments whose objective is the rejuvenation of the skin such as exfoliants or laser. “In the case of the laser, we create microscopic damage below the surface to stimulate recovery, improving the presence of collagen, softening deep expression lines, making the skin look younger and smoother in general,” explains Thais.
An unhealthy lifestyle, smoking, or UV rays can be decisive when nasolabial folds appear.
– Thread lifts: this type of treatment is not recommended for patients with flaccid skin. This method consists of inserting self-dissolving threads into the skin tissue. These threads smooth and lift the sagging areas of the face.
– Mesotherapy: consists of introducing individualized cocktails to the problem area. In each patient, the composition of the mesocortical is made in a personalized way.
– Fat transfer: in this case, the patient’s own fat is used to fill the skin. It is collected from an area of the body (belly or thigh), impurities are removed, and it is reinjected into the cheek or just below the laugh line.
