Editor-In-Chief Of I WANT: On Effective Work With Journalists And Professional Life Hacks

The other day, a free master class for students was held by Anna Ivanenko, the editor-in-chief of the women’s portal I WANT.

The training was held within the framework of the social and educational project “School of PR activists” on the basis of the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts.

Anna talked about how to work effectively with journalists and shared her “tricks”, the subtleties of the everyday life of the editor-in-chief. She believes that now PR people lack creativity, so newsbreaks and materials for the media are often very monotonous and standard.

So, the main messages of the editor-in-chief Anna Ivanenko:

  • Work with headers! Often, the title of the material shows whether it will be interesting or not.
  • Make it a rule to re-read the news before mailing. It is better to spend more time on this right away than to write letters of apology afterward.
  • Journalists are people too! Remember this. It’s best not to bombard them with news emails after 21:00 unless something unforeseen has happened.
  • Always stay in communication. If circumstances have changed, it is better to correctly warn the journalist about it.
  • Google Trends to the rescue if you want to stay on the same wavelength with the world!
  • Now Facebook has become a working tool. Use it to your advantage!
  • How to rid your speech of the clerk? Meduza has a number of interesting articles on this topic. Journalists and PR people take note!
