TOP-Five Journalism Trends From Editor-In-Chief I WANT

The publication I WANT is the undisputed leader among Ukrainian women’s publications. The editor-in-chief of the site, Anna Ivanenko, shared her professional secrets within the framework of the social project “School of PR Practitioners”.

A free master class for future journalists was held at the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts.

In addition to answers to questions that are always of interest to a novice journalist: how interesting it is to present readers with a topic that is not entirely interesting; how to select heroes for articles; what materials are gaining the most views, Anna spoke about the trends in today’s journalism. So.

  1. Non-standard approach to the creation of materials. Of course, there are templates when writing texts, and if you stick to them, you will get a good presentation. But everyone knows that rules are there to be broken sometimes. Perhaps it is a non-standard approach that will highlight the material against the background of the rest and give it a special style. The main thing to remember is that everything is good in moderation.
  2. Working with new formats. It’s no secret that small forms of writing are more popular than large ones. Now there is so much information and various materials that people do not want to “overload” themselves.
  3. Short titles. Half a century ago, it was believed that the title should be extensive. In the Western media, we can also often see long zags. In Ukraine now, as practice shows, the shorter and clearer, the better.
  4. The audience is moving to mobile. It is necessary to understand and adapt any material and special project for a smartphone. Texts, for example, need to be made more structured, supplemented with interesting inserts. Suggestions should be to the point and not too abstruse.
  5. Bloggers are the new stars. Yes, it is with them that both the media and advertisers begin to actively cooperate. Of course, you can try to combine all this – what you can’t do for good material!

Bloggers have formed a separate niche and many of them have already become opinion leaders. And television + blogging = unrealistic audience coverage …
