In recent years, the vocabulary of gender identity and sexual orientation has been evolving. - Allosexuality. This term is used to define people who do experience sexual attraction and differentiate them from asexual people. Allosexual people can also be gay, bisexual, straight, lesbian, etc.
- Androsexuality. People who feel sexual attraction to masculinity in general. They may be attracted to cis and trans men or to masculinity as a whole.
- Asexuality. They are people who experience little or no sexual attraction. These people may have sex on occasion to avoid couple conflicts or to have children. They may also feel romantic attraction or fall in love.
- Bisexuality. Bisexuality used to be defined as those people who were attracted to both men and women. However, this definition has been expanded to include romantic and/or sexual attraction to people of more than one gender.
- Demisexuality. It is a term that falls on the spectrum of asexuality. Demisexual people typically only experience sexual attraction after they have formed a strong emotional bond with someone.
- Fluid gender. This term names the experience and the space to explore a changing identity.
Sexual preferences can evolve and change over time
- Gay. Men who experience romantic and/or sexual attraction to people of the same gender. Although the term used is “gay”, in Latin America lesbian women call themselves gay and in Spain some women (and men) who are attracted to women use queer.
- Gynosexuality. Gynosexual people experience sexual attraction to femininity in general. These people may be attracted to cis and trans women or femininity in general.
- Heterosexuality. Heterosexual people are exclusively attracted to people of another gender. Although people are usually thought of as cis, trans people can also be straight.
- Homosexuality. This term usually refers to people who are attracted to the same gender, although it is in disuse and can even be considered derogatory by them.
- Lesbian. Women, regardless of whether they are cisgender or not, can use the term lesbian if they are attracted to people of the same gender.
- Pansexuality. The term bread means “everything”. Pansexual people can be romantically or sexually attracted to people of any gender.
- Queer. Although it was considered a derogatory term in English, the word has been appropriated by many LGBTQIA+ groups as a term for anyone who does not define themselves as cisgender or heterosexual. Its opposite is “normative”.
- Sapiosexuality. These people feel a sexual attraction that is usually based on the intelligence of the other person.
