Philips already received numerous awards for the 65OLED934, which was presented in 2019, including the coveted EISA award for the best “Home Theater TV”. Now the successor, the 935, has started a similarly steep career.
Philips has remained true to the OLED + concept. In addition to exquisite picture quality, the 65OLED935 with the Bowers & Wilkins sound system and the four-sided Ambilight want to offer more than other televisions. In the new generation of the Ambilight, in addition to the tried and tested “Sunrise” effect for comfortable waking up, “Ambisleep” has been added, which is supposed to make it easier to fall asleep with warm light and natural sounds. “Ambilight Air” works together with the new Philips loudspeakers and extends the lighting beyond the TV in a way that is already known from the Hue lamps.
P5 with AI
The heart of the OLED + is still the Philips P5 engine, now in the current version “AI”. Behind this is the training with the help of artificial intelligence. Millions of different videos were sent through neural networks. The result is a categorization of the respective image content in nature, face, movement, darkness or other and the corresponding image optimization for the respective scene according to various attributes. How strongly this algorithm is used can be set in detail or deactivated entirely by the user. There is also an AI demo mode on board that impressively demonstrates the advantages of the algorithm.
New soundbar
The sound system comes from the renowned British audio company B&W. The soundbar attached to the TV base has revised tweeters and midrange speakers. Two upward radiating chassis provide the Dolby Atmos height effects, and a bass speaker is also integrated. The centrally located, freely radiating tweeter minimizes negative effects on the sound due to the edge deflection of the sound on the housing. This way, the heights remain clear and clean even at angles.
Android 9
Philips also uses Android TV as the operating system for its top model, in the current version 9 of course. Streaming and Smart TV functions are of course given, as is the usual comfortable playback of live TV. The new, stylish remote control is worthy of praise. With its slim design and easy-to-grip, elegant leather back, it lies comfortably in the hand. New and (until now) reserved for OLED + televisions is the Philips anti-burn-in function. The TV recognizes station logos and other constantly bright picture elements (e.g. in games) and then dims them down in a targeted manner without affecting the rest of the picture.
Picture and sound
The 4K television supports all common HDR formats including the dynamic Dolby Vision and HDR10 +. Lined with appropriate film material, the Philips 65OLED935 shows an outstanding, cinematic picture quality that only the very best OLED TVs on the market can offer. Thanks to its intelligent image processing, it also gets the most out of imperfect source material. The very good performance of the B&W soundbar goes well with this: In terms of sound, the Philips OLED + is certainly one of the best televisions money can buy at the moment. You can neither get enough of that, even on long movie nights.
